A LITTLE ABOUT COREY
how this journey began
My rock climbing adventures began with a trip to a climbing gym in 2011. After experiencing the freedom and joy climbing has to offer, I vowed to teach myself how to climb outside. I read countless books, endless videos by professionals, and even built a climbing wall in my backyard to practice my new skills. Money and time and energy were all put towards experiencing the "freedom of the hills." I became an experienced lead climber, mastering rope and anchoring techniques close to the ground, incorporating them into actual climbing on rock.

When I arrived at SUU in 2017, I took the Climbing II class, benefiting from Jake Manning's professional tutelage. It was around then that I decided I wanted to recieve more professional guidance and training. Knowing the American Mountain Guide Association was well renowned for their expertise and certification courses, I decided to pursue their single Pitch Instructor certification.

Although I was unable to take the course or exam, I still practiced my skills and techniques. The goal was to become eligible to one day qualify to take the course and excel in it. I am now well on my way to becoming a professionally certified and experienced rock climbing guide!
